Environmental Initiatives
Centerspace continually looks to innovate and implement green initiatives that reduce energy consumption and protect the environment. We value emission reduction and meeting renters’ increasing demand for green apartment features.
Environmental Management System (EMS)
In 2021, Centerspace partnered with Conservice ESG to implement an Environmental Management System (EMS). This system is aligned with ISO 14001 and ensures that we comply with environmental laws and local regulations, such as city benchmarking.
Green Initiatives
We are working to create green workplaces and green apartment homes, with initiatives and data tracking in energy, water, waste & recycling, air quality, transportation, and sustainable renovations. As of 2024 we’ve surpassed our 2030 goals for whole-community energy and waste data coverage, aligning ourselves with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 16.

Green Certifications Strategy
Our preventative strategy involves the implementation of leak detector systems to save water and prevent damage to our communities. Since 2020, we’ve installed smart home technology in 94% of our communities, surpassing our 2027 goal. We’ve continued to push ourselves and set new targets for 2030 in alignment with United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 6.

GHG Inventory
In 2025, Centerspace completed its first portfolio-wide greenhouse gas inventory, establishing a baseline of 49,418 tCO₂e to support future climate planning and emissions reduction efforts
Waste Diversion
14.75% of waste was diverted from landfills through recycling efforts in 2025
Reduced Water Usage
Reduced total water use by 5.0% year-over-year and reduced water use at water-stressed properties by 10.2%, demonstrating targeted resource conservation in higher-risk regions
